Oral surgery is a serious dental treatment, and it’s extremely important to do all you can to properly recover after your appointment. If you take the recovery period seriously, you will have the best treatment results possible.
To help you recover properly, our Ocean State Oral Surgery Center, L.L.C. team encourages you to do the following things:
-Take it easy for the first few days following the surgery. When lying down, make sure to prop your head up with pillows so you can limit the bleeding and swelling.
-Apply ice packs outside the treated area for 15 minutes a time to reduce swelling.
-Once the bleeding stops, it’s important to stick to a soft-foods and liquid diet. Some good foods to eat include soups, yogurts, fruit, milkshakes, smoothies, and mashed potatoes.
-If your doctor gave you medicine to help you recover, it’s best to take that medication at the prescribed times.
-Do your best to keep your mouth clean. You can do so by rinsing your mouth four times a day with warm saltwater. However, we encourage you to wait to rinse until after the first 24 hours following surgery.
