If you have treated your smile with a surgical treatment, then it’s very important to recover properly. If you don’t recover properly, you can suffer consequences that are quite inconvenient and troublesome. Our dentist, Dr. Aaron Ercole, is happy to help you recover after oral surgery by telling you all the things you should do. Those things are:

-Get plenty of rest. You should rest one to three days after the treatment. Your dentist will tell you the recommended time to take things easy.

-Avoid brushing your teeth for 24 hours. This is because the mouth is still too sensitive for oral hygiene.

-Ice your jaw regularly. This will help reduce any swelling and pain. It’s best to ice for 20 minutes, take a break for 15 minutes, ice for 20 minutes and so on and so forth.

-Avoid sipping on straws or eating hard foods. This is important because using a straw and eating hard foods can dislodge the clot in the mouth and cause complications.

-Eat plenty of soft foods and drink a lot of liquid. It’s very important to stay nourished and hydrated while you’re recovering.

-Take your pain medications. This can help you stay relaxed and calm, which can help you recover faster.
